Modern Workplace Weekly Digest - Vol 2

News 6 min read

Another week has gone past us and in Melbourne, we are still in Lockdown 2.0 to contain the spread of active COVID-19 cases numbers. During last week, there is a lot that happened in the world of Modern Workplace technologies. Here are a few things that caught my attention last week.

Microsoft News

Microsoft Teams Together Mode changing the fan experience at NBA

The new Microsoft Teams Together Mode feature will be used to bring fans to the courtside during NBA matches. And at the same time, it will help the players motivated with fans cheering for their team. It is win-win for all. What a wonderful use of technology and innovation during this crisis.

Here is a TLDR version of how this technology will be used.

Starting July 30, the NBA will outfit each game court with 17-foot-tall LED screens that wrap three sides of the arena. These “stands” will be populated with more than 300 cheering fans who will join the game using Together mode in Teams. Alongside a view of their fellow fans, participants can watch a live feed of the game right within Teams.

Check out this Official Microsoft 365 blog post from Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365 to know more about it.

If you are interested to see this tech in action, here is a short video snippet post by Tania Ganguli.

Note: For normal business users, please note that Microsoft Teams Together Mode is still not generally available yet.

Microsoft Inspire

Microsoft Inspire 2020 partner conference happened online for the first time from 22 to 23rd July. A lot of partner updates and tech innovation has been announced this year. All sessions are now available on-demand.

I still haven’t checked out all the sessions I am interested in. However, here are a few standout sessions for me so far.

Modern Content Type Gallery

The modern content type gallery is now generally available at the time of publishing this blog post.

The gallery uses a modern list view of content types in the content type hub, which lets you easily group on different columns and save custom views. The content type ID is also listed for custom coded solutions. Managing your existing enterprise content types and creating new ones is smoother with modern experiences.

In the coming weeks, we will release video tutorials on both Modern Term Store and Content Type Gallery. Please subscribe to the Modern Work Group YouTube channel to get notified.

Things to watch out

In the next few weeks, I am very keen to watch out for the following updates.

Microsoft Lists

The new (or revamped SharePoint Lists) Mirosoft Lists is hitting GA in August 2020.

Microsoft Teams Dataflex

Build apps and chatbots and visualize data without leaving Teams. Enhancements to the Power Platform experience in Teams make it easier to create, deploy, and manage apps, as well as visualize data, without ever leaving Teams. Apps, flows, and bots built with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agent can now access data that resides in Microsoft Dataflex, Power Platform’s low code data platform that’s built into Teams. The new Dataflex, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents functionalities in Teams are coming soon to select Microsoft 365 and Office 365 users for no additional cost.
